Béatrix Beck, a renowned French writer of Belgian descent, was born on 14th July 1914 in Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland, to Christian Beck, a celebrated poet. Following her early years, she pursued various occupations before securing a position as the personal secretary to the esteemed French author André Gide.

Under Gide's guidance and encouragement, Beck began to channel her life experiences into her writing, which included her mother's tragic suicide, the devastating impact of war, and the struggles she faced due to poverty. Throughout her career, Beck's literary works were deeply personal and reflective of her unique life journey.

Béatrix Beck's life came to a close on 30th November 2008, at the age of 94, in Saint-Clair-sur-Epte. Despite her passing, her legacy as a writer continues to be celebrated and recognized.
