Biography

John Evan Weston-Davies, also known as Berkely Mather, was a British author of great acclaim, having authored an impressive total of fifteen novels and a collection of short stories that showcased his mastery of the written word.

Notable among his numerous literary achievements is the novelization of the 1965 cinematic masterpiece, "Genghis Khan", which was actually a story he had originally conceived. Throughout his illustrious career in the film industry, Mather accumulated a vast array of credits, including the notable works "The Long Ships" and "Dr. No", the latter of which saw him borrowing a copy of Ian Fleming's original novel from his son.

Moreover, Mather made significant, albeit uncredited, contributions to the screenplays of two additional James Bond films, "From Russia with Love" and "Goldfinger", further solidifying his reputation as a skilled and accomplished writer.

Noteworthy in this regard is the acquisition of film rights to "The Pass Beyond Kashmir" by esteemed James Bond film producers Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, with Columbia Pictures being the entity to which the rights were acquired in the year 1963.

The cinematic endeavor was poised to star the illustrious Sean Connery and the talented Honor Blackman, with a planned production schedule that envisioned the commencement of filming in the latter half of 1964, with the United Kingdom serving as the primary filming location, as well as additional scenes to be captured on location in the distant and exotic Far East.
