Bernard Glasser, a native of Chicago, was born and raised in the midst of what he refers to as "the movie generation", and his fascination with moving images began at the tender age of four. As a young adult, Glasser pursued a career in education, teaching at Beverly Hills High School in the late 1940s.
During this time, he also dipped his toes into the film industry by working as a production assistant. This early foray into the world of cinema would eventually lead to his most notable achievement: the transformation of an old motion picture studio into a rental lot, Keywest Studios, in 1950.
Glasser's entrepreneurial spirit and passion for filmmaking allowed him to lease his facility to prominent producers such as Roger Corman, Burt Lancaster, and others. He also utilized the studio to produce a five-day, $50,000 film of his own, The Three Stooges' Gold Raiders (1951),directed by his close friend Edward Bernds.
When Glasser's studio lease expired in 1955, he and Bernds joined forces to create a series of budget features for Robert L. Lippert's Regal Films.
In the 1960s, Glasser ventured overseas, often collaborating with producer/writer Philip Yordan on a range of films, including Battle of the Bulge (1965),The Day of the Triffids (1963),and Crack in the World (1965).
