Bernard's creative endeavors began in 1961, as he penned and helmed theatrical productions at the esteemed Long Beach Playhouse in Long Beach, California. His artistic output flourished in 1962, with the successful presentation of his notable plays, "Aurelius" and "Reynard". This marked the beginning of his foray into the world of playwriting and direction.

Fast-forward to 1967, Bernard shifted his focus to the realm of educational filmmaking, partnering with Film Associates of California in Santa Monica. As a producer, he brought to life a series of informative films centered around the Bill of Rights, shedding light on the fundamental principles of American democracy. Additionally, he conceptualized and directed a captivating music series, which showcased the rich cultural heritage of various nations, including Japan and India. This innovative project allowed audiences to experience the diversity and beauty of global music, further solidifying Bernard's reputation as a visionary and accomplished filmmaker.
