Bertie Higgins, a Tarpon Springs, Florida native, began his journey in the entertainment industry as a teenager. He caught the attention of actor/directors Richard Boone and Burt Reynolds, who recognized his writing potential and mentored him in screenwriting. However, Higgins decided to redirect his creative energies towards the music business, and his efforts paid off when his song "Key Largo" topped the US charts and became an international hit. The song's success led to a string of hit singles, including "Just Another Day in Paradise" and "Casablanca," which earned him international recognition and multi-platinum status.
As a result of his music success, Higgins became an international recording star, appearing on major network talk and variety shows, as well as acting in television shows like "The Guiding Light" and "The ABC Mystery Movie of the Week." He even starred in the feature film "Out of Hand" and performed with Michael Bolton during the Chinese New Year celebrations in Beijing, which was viewed by over a billion people worldwide.
In 2004, Higgins opened an office in Burbank, California, to pursue his passion for filmmaking and collaborate with his son Julian Higgins, a film student majoring in film direction. Together, they wrote several screenplays and formed a production company, Cayo Largo Productions, which has since produced several films, including "Beast Beneath," "Poker Run," and "The Colombian Connection," starring Tom Sizemore.
Higgins' latest project is a documentary about the creation of Rock and Roll, which he is producing. He has also released his thirteenth CD, "The Very Best of Trop Rock," which features a number one country single on the UK and European charts. With a successful music and film career spanning decades, Higgins continues to be a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, with many projects in the works.
