Biography

Beryl Wallace, a remarkable individual, made her entrance into the world in Brooklyn, New York, as the eldest of nine siblings, born to a family of Austrian-Jewish descent who had fled their homeland in search of a better life. This brilliant and captivating person, blessed with an extraordinary physical appearance and an undeniable sense of allure, was drawn to the captivating world of entertainment like a magnet, and her natural inclination towards the performing arts led her to begin her journey in the realm of dance.

As a teenager, she responded to a casting call advertisement and landed a role in the 1928 production of the "Earl Carroll Vanities", a show that marked the beginning of her journey in the entertainment industry.

Earl Carroll, the show's creator, rebranded her name to "Beryl Wallace", a moniker that would accompany her throughout her career.

Following her debut, she went on to appear in numerous provocative shows that pushed the boundaries of what was considered acceptable at the time, often featuring themes that blurred the lines between fantasy and reality.

Some of these shows even required her to perform in scenes that involved frontal nudity, a bold move that showcased her willingness to take risks and challenge societal norms.

Beryl was a talented actress who made a name for herself both on and off the stage. In addition to her notable appearances in Carroll's Vanities, which took place in 1930, 1931, 1932, 1935, and 1940, she also had a successful career on Broadway.

One of her earliest notable roles was in the musical comedy "Treasure Girl", which premiered in 1928. This was followed by her appearance in Carroll's "Murder at the Vanities" in 1932, a performance that showcased her versatility as an actress.

In 1936, Beryl appeared in the hit play "The Women", where she played a small but significant role as a model. This role further solidified her status as a talented and in-demand actress, and her performances continued to captivate audiences for years to come.

Despite her many accomplishments, Beryl remained humble and dedicated to her craft, always striving to improve and take on new challenges. Her legacy as a talented actress continues to inspire and entertain audiences to this day.

The individual in question, a brunette with a distinctive pencil-thin brow, Earl Carroll, a multifaceted personality who held positions as both a producer and mogul, initiated a romantic connection with the subject, despite being at least 16 years her senior.

As a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, Carroll leveraged his influence to secure the subject's position as the main attraction in his theatrical productions, which took place at the esteemed Earl Carroll Theatre and Restaurant, a popular destination situated on the iconic Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.

Noteworthy events in her illustrious career began with a cinematic debut in a film adaptation of Carroll's Broadway play "Murder at the Vanities", a production released in the year 1934, marking a pivotal moment in her transition from stage to screen.

Notable for her prolific career in the realm of "B" films, this actress went on to appear in a remarkable total of nearly two dozen such productions, predominantly consisting of action-packed adventures and westerns, opposite a diverse array of handsome leading men. Among her notable co-stars were Kermit Maynard, with whom she shared the screen in the 1937 film "Rough Riding Rhythm", as well as Larry J. Blake and Dick Purcell, who engaged in a heated rivalry for her affections in the 1938 film "Air Devils". Her impressive filmography also includes collaborations with the legendary Roy Rogers in the 1942 production "Sunset on the Desert" and the esteemed Richard Dix in the 1943 film "The Kansan".

Noteworthy among her later cinematic endeavors were the 1943 production "The Woman of the Town" and the 1944 release "Enemy of Women", in which she, unfortunately, found herself relegated to supporting roles, rather than assuming the prominent positions she had previously occupied.

Her extensive filmography, however, was marred by a tendency for her to be relegated to mere background scenery and unbilled appearances, a development that undoubtedly had a detrimental impact on her career and artistic growth.

Beryl's stint in the minor film industry was marked by her enduring status as a main attraction at Earl Carroll's extravagant musical revues, captivating audiences with her presence.

As World War II unfolded, Beryl lent her talents to the war effort by taking to the airwaves, hosting and singing on various radio shows that aimed to boost morale and entertain the masses.

In addition to her radio work, Beryl made it a point to visit the Masquers Club, where she regaled soldiers with her performances, bringing much-needed joy and respite to those serving on the front lines.

Furthermore, she also danced the night away at the iconic Hollywood Canteen, a popular hub for entertainment and socializing, all while dedicating her time and energy to supporting the war effort in any way she could.

The reality that her cinematic endeavors did not culminate in a substantial and lasting impact did not weigh heavily on her mind. For she had, in her own right, achieved a level of stardom - one that shone brightly in the lavish productions of Earl Carroll's esteemed extravaganzas.

The year 1948 marked a pivotal moment in the life of Carroll, as he was meticulously planning the launch of a grander theater, situated just a single block away from his existing establishment. This ambitious new venture aimed to rival the majestic Radio City Music Hall in New York, a project that would ultimately require a substantial investment of upwards of $15 million.

Tragedy struck on June 17, 1948, when Beryl and Earl Carroll, en route from Los Angeles to New York City, met their untimely demise in the devastating crash of United Airlines Flight 624, which occurred at Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania.

The fateful aircraft, compelled by unforeseen circumstances to make an emergency landing, plummeted towards the ground with unbridled haste, ultimately colliding with a 66,000-volt transformer in its precipitous descent, resulting in a cataclysmic explosion that shook the very foundations of the surrounding landscape.

Following the passing of Carroll, as per his express desires outlined in his testament, the ashes of the beloved couple were laid to rest together in the serene and majestic Garden of Memory at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, situated in the picturesque city of Glendale, California.

Upon their shared crypt, a grandiose replica of Carroll's own hands, grasping a life-sized figurine, rises majestically, serving as a poignant tribute to the breathtaking beauty of Beryl, a testament to the enduring power of their love.
