Biography

Beverly Ruth Younger was born on August 2, 1915, in the city of Saskatoon, located in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Her parents, Edward J. Younger and Margaret Verle Dunham, were both born in 1891 and lived until 1954 and 1975, respectively.

From a young age, Beverly's passion for the stage was evident, with her first appearance being at just four years old. She continued to perform throughout her childhood, joining the Bainbridge Players at the age of six and staying with them until she left high school in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.

After leaving high school, Beverly began performing with the Federal Theater and soon found herself featured on radio soap operas. Her writing skills also shone through, as she specialized in comedic monologues. In the Eugene O'Neill play, The Straw, she met actor Lester Burton Podewell, whom she would later marry in 1937.

Many of Beverly's early monologues were written for her husband's performances, but she also wrote character impersonations for her own one-woman shows. She went on to play the role of Matilda Pendleton on the radio series Ma Perkins for five years, followed by her portrayal of Kitty Keene on the radio series of the same name.

In the 1950s, Beverly appeared on Stud Terkel's live TV show, Stud's Place, in Chicago, playing the role of Gracie the waitress. Her husband, Lester Podewell, was a regular client at the diner where the show was set.

After a lengthy illness, Beverly Ruth Younger passed away on July 24, 1999, in Evanston, Illinois, USA.
