Martin's most notable work is perhaps the screenplay for the 1987 film Harry and the Hendersons, which he co-wrote with Ezra D. Rappaport and directed by William Dear. The character of Bigfoot was inspired by Martin's expressive face, making it a unique and memorable portrayal.
In addition to his work on Harry and the Hendersons, Martin was also a key contributor to Michael Nesmith's Elephant Parts, writing much of the material and performing in several sketches.
