Biography

Bill Maxwell is a renowned musician, composer, and music producer, best known for his work on various television shows and films, including "Martin" (1992),"The Jamie Foxx Show" (1996),and "The Color Purple" (1985).

Born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Bill's life took a significant turn when his mother, a jazz pianist, passed away just two months after giving birth to him. His grandparents, recognizing his innate talent, encouraged him to study music, and he began attending a music pre-school at the tender age of two.

Bill's passion for music only grew stronger as he grew older, and he started playing drums professionally at the age of twelve. He was fortunate enough to work with legendary blues guitarist Jesse Ed Davis and was a member of the "Third Avenue Blues Band," which produced an album in 1969 under the guidance of renowned producer T Bone Burnett.

In 1972, Bill relocated to Los Angeles, where he joined Andrae Crouch and the Disciples. Over the years, he has produced eight Grammy-winning recordings for various artists, including The Winans and Andrae Crouch. He also co-founded the band "Koinonia" with his dear friend Abraham Laboriel.

As a music director, Bill has worked on numerous television shows, including "The Jamie Foxx Show," "Martin," "Living Single," "For Your Love," and "Amen." His impressive list of collaborators includes Cassandra Wilson, T Bone Burnett, Ray Charles, Billy Preston, Quincy Jones, The Crusaders, The Nappy Roots, Freddie Hubbard, Anita Baker, and Luther Vandross, to name a few.

Bill has also lent his talents to various films, including "The Ladykillers" and "Romance and Cigarettes," and has worked as a featured musician on "Walk The Line." Currently, he is a member of the new group "Open Hands" alongside Abraham Laboriel, Justo Almario, and Greg Mathieson.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the music industry, Bill was inducted into The Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame in October 2008 and is a member of The Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
