Bille Woodruff is a renowned filmmaker who has had the privilege of collaborating with some of the most prominent names in the entertainment industry. Born and raised in Virginia, Woodruff's academic pursuits initially led him to the University of Maryland, College Park, where he was a National Merit Scholar and received a full academic scholarship to study anthropology.
However, his academic path took an unexpected turn when he secured an internship at Black Entertainment Television (BET) in Washington, D.C. This opportunity not only sparked his interest in the entertainment industry but also led him to switch his major to film. Woodruff's career in show business began at BET, where he worked his way up the ranks, acquiring practical production knowledge and experience, and eventually becoming the Executive Producer of Specials and Original Programming.
During his time at BET, Woodruff also began directing EPKs and music videos for up-and-coming artists. His success at BET led to a growing list of credits, and he eventually left the network to join Atlanta-based LaFace Records as Senior National Director of Music Videos and Video Production. Spending three years at LaFace, Woodruff's reputation as a talented music video director continued to grow, earning him the opportunity to work with a diverse range of artists.
In 2003, Woodruff made his feature film debut with Universal Pictures' Honey, starring Jessica Alba and Mekhi Phifer, which grossed over US$60 million worldwide. His most recent feature film was Beauty Shop, released in the Spring of 2005, starring Queen Latifah, Djimon Hounsou, Kevin Bacon, Andie MacDowell, Mena Suvari, Alicia Silverstone, and Alfre Woodard.
Throughout his career, Woodruff has been recognized for his distinctive visual style, earning numerous nominations and awards, including a VH-1 Fashion award. His impressive body of work includes music videos for artists such as Jessica Simpson, Lil' Kim, Britney Spears, Céline Dion, R. Kelly, Nas, OutKast, Aaliyah, Missy Elliott, TLC, Toni Braxton, Trisha Yearwood, and Usher, among many others.
