Bindu was born on April 17th in the Gujerati-speaking Desai family, which consisted of her film producer father, Nanubhai, and stage actress mother, Jyotsna. This unique family background allowed her to find a niche in the Bollywood industry as early as 1962, when she made her film debut in "Anpadh", playing the role of a well-educated daughter of an illiterate Mala Sinha.
However, it was her subsequent roles in films like "Do Raaste" and "Kati Patang" that truly showcased her acting prowess and typecast her as a vamp. The iconic song "Meraaa Naam has Shabnam, Pyar Se Log Mujhey Shaboo Kahete Hain..." from "Kati Patang" remains a popular and enduring classic, with its catchy melody and memorable lyrics.
Despite her on-screen persona, Bindu's life was marked by challenges, particularly at the tender age of 13 when her father passed away, leaving her to take on the responsibility of supporting her family. However, she persevered and continued to pursue her passion for acting, thanks in part to the support of her husband, Champaklal Zaveri, who encouraged her to continue her career.
Throughout her illustrious career, which spanned over four decades, Bindu has acted in over 160 films, including the 2004 hit "Main Hoon Na". Her remarkable range and versatility have earned her a reputation as a Bollywood legend, a vamp, a character actress, a stern mother-in-law, a dancer, a singer, and above all, an excellent actress.
