Biography

Born Léontine Ernestine Gauché, Bleuette Bernon was a pioneering French film actress who made a significant mark in the early days of cinema, collaborating with the renowned filmmaker Georges Méliès around the turn of the 20th century.

During this era, films were often short, plotless, and lasting mere minutes. However, Méliès revolutionized the genre of fictional motion pictures, and Bernon emerged as one of the earliest character actors in the industry.

In 1899, Bernon took on the iconic role of the title character in Méliès's "Jeanne d'Arc", followed by her portrayal of Cinderella in "Cendrillon". The following year, she appeared in "Barbe-bleue", and in 1902, she played a minor yet memorable role as "lady in the Moon" in Méliès's most famous film, "A Trip to the Moon".

In 1903, Bernon donned the role of Aurora in "Le Royaume des fées", further solidifying her position as a prominent figure in the early days of French cinema.
