Bob Amsberry's life journey began in Boring, Oregon, where he was born, and his early career unfolded in Portland, Oregon, as a radio disc jockey for KEX for eight years. This stint preceded his unexpected entry into television, courtesy of Walt Disney, who brought him to Hollywood to write songs for The Mickey Mouse Club in 1955. Amsberry's remarkable talent and dedication earned him a spot on the show, and when the time came to add another entertainer to the Mouseketeers segment alongside Jimmie Dodd and Roy Williams, the job was offered to him.
In addition to his acting responsibilities on the show, Bob Amsberry also took on the role of handling special sound effects and donning a whiteface and costume to star as Bob-O, the Disneyland clown at Disneyland. Interestingly, during his time at Franklin High School in Portland, Amsberry collaborated with a classmate, Johnnie Ray, who would later become a famous singer. The unique aspect of this partnership was that Bob handled the singing duties while Johnnie played the piano.
Bob Amsberry's personal life was filled with love and music. He met his wife, Beverly, at station KEX, and the couple had two children, Kevin and Kelly. Beverly, a blues singer in her own right, had a notable achievement, having won a contest on Ted Mack & the Original Amateur Hour in 1948.
