Biography

Robert C. Moore, a talented individual, was born in California in the year 1920. Initially, he attended art classes at the renowned Chouinard Institute in Los Angeles, where he laid the foundation for his future endeavors. Shortly after, he made his debut at the animation studios of Walter Lantz, marking the beginning of his illustrious career.

Moore's father, a violinist with the prestigious Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, had the privilege of playing on several Disney shorts, including the iconic 'Steamboat Willie' and 'Plane Crazy'. This exposure to the world of animation undoubtedly had a profound impact on Moore's own creative journey.

In 1940, Moore seized the opportunity to work at the Disney Studios, where he served as the trusted assistant to Walt Kelly on the animation projects 'Fantasia' and 'Dumbo'. His subsequent move to the Story Department allowed him to flourish as a gag man on the films 'The Reluctant Dragon' and 'The Three Caballeros'.

During World War II, Moore contributed to several propaganda films produced by the studios for the American Army, further showcasing his versatility and dedication to his craft.

In late 1948, Moore joined the Publicity Art Department, where he worked under the guidance of Hank Porter, creating artwork for posters, books, and promotional materials. Upon Porter's departure in 1950, Moore assumed the role of art director, a position he held until his retirement in 1983.

In addition to his work in animation, Moore also ventured into the world of comics. Between 1947 and 1948, he contributed to Lev Gleason comic books, and later, between 1950 and 1952, he drew for the Disney comic books published by Dell/Western. His portfolio includes illustrations for 'Donald Duck' stories in Walt Disney's Christmas Parade and Four Color Comics, as well as work on 'Grandma Duck' and 'Little Bad Wolf'. Furthermore, Moore drew for the popular Little Golden Books series between 1952 and 1953.

Sadly, Bob Moore passed away on November 20, 2001, in Koloa, Hawaii, leaving behind a legacy of creative excellence and a lifetime of contributions to the world of animation and comics.
