Biography

Bobby J. Brown, a multifaceted individual, was born in Washington D.C. and grew up on Pennsylvania Avenue, situated on the border of Southeast, Washington D.C. and PG County.

As a child, Bobby was drawn to boxing, and it was at a local gym where he honed his skills, surrounded by the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard, who catapulted to super stardom after winning the 1976 Olympics.

During his amateur boxing career, Bobby compiled an impressive record of 73-13, claiming five Golden Glove Championships along the way. Notably, he faced Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker, who would go on to become one of the greatest Lightweight Champions in boxing history, on three separate occasions.

Bobby's personal life was marked by challenges, as his daughter was born with a degenerative eye disease, undergoing 42 operations over the course of three and a half years. Despite the efforts to save her sight, she eventually became completely blind.

This life-altering experience led Bobby to pursue a career in professional boxing, signing with legendary trainer Carmen Graziano and relocating to Brigantine, New Jersey. It was during this time, while fighting in Atlantic City casinos, that he became enamored with acting after witnessing Mickey Rourke film "Homeboy," a movie featuring professional boxers from Carmen Graziano's stable.

Following the completion of "Homeboy," Bobby auditioned and was accepted into the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, embarking on a new path. After graduating, he landed a recurring role on "Law & Order-SVU" and went on to act alongside Academy Award winners Robert DeNiro, Renee Zellweger, and James Franco.

In addition to his acting career, Bobby has also directed two award-winning documentaries, "Off the Chain" and "Tear the Roof Off- The Untold Story of Parliament Funkadelic." The former sheds light on the mistreatment and abuse of American Pit Bull Terriers, with Bobby donating one-third of the sales to the Humane Society of the United States. The latter is a tribute to the legendary funk band Parliament-Funkadelic and can be streamed on Amazon Prime.

Bobby has appeared in numerous TV shows and movies, including two Emmy Award-winning HBO series, "The Corner" and "The Wire." In 2022, he will be featured as "Thomas Allers" in the true crime six-part episodic series "We Own This City" on HBO.
