Born on June 8, 1951, in the picturesque town of Skewen, located in the valley of Neath, Wales, a country known for its rich cultural heritage and stunning natural beauty. It was in this idyllic setting that a young and talented individual would first make her mark on the world of music.
Her rise to fame began in 1976 with the release of her hit single, "Lost in France", which quickly shot to the top 10 in the UK charts. Little did she know that a throat operation she underwent shortly after would inadvertently lead to the development of her unique and distinct singing voice.
Fast forward to 1978, and she had already achieved transatlantic success with her hit single "It's a Heartache", which reached an impressive top 5 on both sides of the Atlantic.
But it was in 1983 that she truly made history, becoming the first Welsh singer to have a transatlantic number one hit with Jim Steinman's iconic ballad "Total Eclipse of the Heart". The accompanying album "Faster than the Speed of Night" also debuted at number one on the UK album charts, cementing her status as a music icon.
Although she has struggled to replicate the same level of success in the years that followed, she has continued to record and perform, including the hit single "Holding Out for a Hero" in 1985, which featured on the soundtrack of the popular film Footloose.
In 2004, she surprised fans by releasing a French-language version of "Total Eclipse of the Heart", which went on to top the charts in France. She has since continued to tour extensively, performing alongside other music legends, including Meat Loaf.
In addition to her music career, she has also built a successful business empire, making her a true entrepreneur and a testament to the power of hard work and determination. Her impressive career has also seen her perform at high-profile events, including the wedding of Hollywood stars Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
