B. R. Tatalovic, also known as Bruno Tatalovic, is a Serbian-American motion picture artist and media educator born in 1966 in Belgrade, Serbia. He worked as a milling machine operator and operated an underground video store while collecting VHS tapes in his spare time.
After completing his mandatory Yugoslav peacetime military service in 1988, Tatalovic moved to the United States, where he lived with his Serbian immigrant relatives in Ohio and pursued permanent residency. He worked various blue-collar jobs, including machinist, union steelworker, carpenter, and housing maintenance-man.
Between 1995 and 2005, Tatalovic attended college evening-classes for working adults, pursuing creative arts degrees at Cuyahoga Community College and Cleveland State University. During this time, he also completed filmmaking workshops and created his debut motion pictures on 16mm and DV formats.
In 2006, Tatalovic formed Belgrade & Cleveland Media Group, a sole member micro-studio for video/film production. He produced a documentary feature, B.A.T.: Balkan Rock Nostalgia, and taught videography for court reporting at a local technical college.
Tatalovic was invited to Hollywood, California, for an interview with the American Film Institute (AFI) as one of top 50 applicants for AFI's MFA program in film producing. He secured a spot at Chapman University's Dodge Conservatory of Film, where he studied under the mentorship of award-winning educators.
Between 2007 and 2009, Tatalovic worked on numerous film projects, collaborating with talented motion picture artists from around the world. As part of his Master thesis work, he produced a short film, Fiasco, which resulted in an Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation (ATAS "EmmyFoundation") nomination for collegiate TV production and several festival awards.
In 2009, Tatalovic was offered a full-time faculty position at Cuyahoga Community College, where he earned an academic tenure in 2014. He has continued to work on independent film productions and has received several awards and nominations for his work.
Tatalovic has also worked as an actor in the U.S. since 2004, appearing in numerous titles, from blockbuster movies to independent and SAG-AFTRA productions. He has collaborated with award-winning visual artists on numerous projects.
Tatalovic's cine-artwork exhibitions include numerous shows in the U.S. and festival screenings in his native region. His accolades include film festival awards, State of Ohio recognitions, the College Television Award, and multiple contest nominations/awards for screenwriting.
He is a member of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) and the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS - Great Lakes Chapter). Tatalovic resides and works in Cleveland, Ohio, with his life-partner and producing associate Deborah Ochwat.
