Brendon Small's musical journey began at the tender age of 15, when he first picked up the guitar. This early start laid the foundation for his future success, and he went on to graduate from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in 1997. Concurrently, he took writing and comedy classes at Emerson College, demonstrating his versatility and dedication to his craft.
After graduating, Small began performing stand-up comedy at The Comedy Studio in Harvard Square, where he was spotted by Loren Bouchard, who was casting for the central character for a UPN pilot produced by Tom Snyder Productions. This encounter led to the creation of Home Movies, a cartoon that Small co-created, wrote, voiced, composed, and played music for. Initially airing on the UPN television network, the show later moved to Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, where it ran for four seasons before concluding on April 4, 2004.
However, Home Movies is not Small's only claim to fame. He is also the co-producer, co-writer, composer, and actor for the Adult Swim series Metalocalypse, which premiered on August 6, 2006. This show follows the fictional death metal band Dethklok and features a song "performed" by the band in each episode. Small provides voice talent for three of the five members of Dethklok: Skwisgaar Skwigelf, Pickles the Drummer, and Nathan Explosion. His work on Metalocalypse has also been featured in the hit video game Guitar Hero II, with the song "Thunderhorse" being a standout track.
