Brian Godfrey, a talented individual with a strong background in the entertainment industry, was born on May 26, 1949. He came from a theatrical family, with his grandmother having appeared in pantomime at the old Surrey Theatre and his uncle, Tommy Godfrey, being a well-known Cockney character actor.
Godfrey's early career began when he was just 14 years old, appearing in the Judy Garland movie I Could Go On Singing. He later became the assistant director at the Whitehall Theatre for the renowned playwright Ray Cooney. In Cooney's farces, Godfrey took on various roles, including Bobby Franklin in Run for Your Wife, which he performed more times than any other actor, both in London and internationally.
Godfrey's television career spanned numerous shows, including Z-Cars, Dr Finlay's Casebook, Jackanory, Father, Dear Father, the Kenny Everett Television Show, and Hi-de-Hi!, where he played a holiday camp comic after Ted Bovis was sacked.
Despite his success in television, Godfrey's film career was less notable. He appeared in the 1976 spoof Queen Kong, but the film never made it to the screen due to a legal injunction. In 2012, he had a cameo role in the cinema version of Run for Your Wife, which grossed only £600 during its first weekend and received negative reviews from critics.
Throughout his career, Godfrey was associated with Qdos Entertainment, the world's largest pantomime producer, for over 25 years, playing the roles of dame or ugly sister. He passed away on December 25, 2015, at the age of 66.
