Here is the biography of Brian Lumley:
Brian Lumley was born on December 2, 1937. Just nine months after the death of his literary forebear, H.P. Lovecraft. By his pre-teens, Lumley had read Dracula and other horror classics, but his first love was Science Fiction, influenced by Dan Dare: Pilot of the Future in the British Eagle comic. He later became attracted to macabre fiction, an attraction that has lasted a lifetime.
In his early twenties, while serving with the Corps of Royal Military Police in Germany, Lumley discovered Lovecraft's stories and began searching for every available item of the author's work. This led him to contact HPL's publisher, August Derleth, and eventually, Derleth asked Lumley to write for a book he was preparing for publication, Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos. This marked the beginning of Lumley's writing career.
Lumley's early work was influenced by Lovecraft's style, but he gradually developed his own unique writing style. Despite completing a full term of 22 years with the RMP, Lumley managed to write and publish several books, including the Arkham House anthologies and his own novels, such as Beneath the Moors and The Horror at Oakdeene.
After retiring from the Army in 1980, Lumley became a professional author and began writing in earnest. He went on to write the Necroscope series, which became a bestseller and was published in the UK and USA. The series has since been translated into 15 countries and has sold over three million copies.
Lumley's other notable works include The House of Doors, Maze of Worlds, and the Vampire World Trilogy. He has won numerous awards, including the Grand Master Award, Lifetime Achievement Award from the Bram Stoker Awards, and Lifetime Achievement Award from the World Fantasy Convention.
Lumley is still active in the writing community, although he no longer writes novels. He continues to write novellas and short stories and has a strong following of dedicated readers. He and his wife, Barbara Ann, also known as "Silky," have a strong bond with their fans and have hosted annual gatherings, known as KeoghCon, since 2000.
