Brian Scott Lederman was raised in Long Island, New York, and his childhood fascination with filmmaking began at the age of three when he watched Richard Donner's "Superman" on the big screen. He was captivated and did not move or fuss, instead watching wide-eyed with his jaw dropped at the edge of his seat from beginning to end. This experience sparked a lifelong passion for filmmaking, and he would often re-enact scenes with his brother Matthew, shooting on video and embodying the lead character.
Lederman's father, a commercial director, was a significant influence on his development as a filmmaker. He would often accompany his father on set, learning the importance of leading a crew confidently, patiently, and efficiently. Additionally, Lederman's talent for creating imaginative worlds was evident in his illustrations, which he honed through his studies at the Art Institute of Boston and later at the School of Visual Arts as a film major. It was at the School of Visual Arts that he met his wife and partner, Monica JY Lederman, with whom he shares a love of the magic and fantasy that exists in filmmaking.
After moving to Los Angeles, Lederman studied acting at several popular studios, enhancing his natural talent and gaining the perspective that endears him as a director to his performers. He also witnessed the "LA scene" and, while his peers were schmoozing and mingling, he was at home or in the movie theater consuming and studying "the Work".
