Brian Steidle, a former Marine Captain, is a renowned expert in military and security operations, as well as an author, who has dedicated his career to shedding light on the devastating Darfur conflict in Sudan.
Steidle's most notable work is his book, "The Devil Came on Horseback", which chronicles his personal experience in Darfur. The book was later adapted into a documentary film that premiered at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in 2007.
Throughout his career, Steidle has shared his harrowing experiences with world leaders in the United States and abroad, including addressing the U.S. Congress and the United Nations. He has also served as a lecturer and advisor to various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) focused on humanitarian efforts in Africa and other nations.
Prior to his work in Darfur, Steidle served in the United States Marine Corps from 1999 to 2003, rising through the ranks to become an infantry officer, ultimately earning the rank of Captain.
