Britt Leach, a talented character actor, was born on July 18, 1938, in Gadsden, Alabama. His engaging personality and physical appearance often led to him being cast in roles that showcased his no-nonsense demeanor, such as no-nonsense police officers, blue-collar working-class characters, and rough-around-the-edges hillbillies.
Leach's academic background includes graduating from the prestigious McCallie prep school in 1956, where he was active in college theater. He then went on to attend Birmingham Southern College in the mid-1960s and briefly studied at Northwestern University before dropping out and working in Army intelligence.
Leach's professional acting career began in the early 1970s, with memorable roles in films such as "Jackson County Jail," "Night Warning," "Silent Night, Deadly Night," "The Last Starfighter," "Weird Science," and "The Great Outdoors." His extensive television credits include guest appearances on popular shows like "Quantum Leap," "Coach," "Murder, She Wrote," "L.A. Law," "Tales from the Crypt," "Amazing Stories," "St. Elsewhere," "Fame," "The Dukes of Hazzard," "Hill Street Blues," "Dallas," "M.A.S.H.," "The Waltons," "Wonder Woman," "The Love Boat," "Sanford and Son," "Happy Days," "Mission: Impossible," "Bonanza," "The Partridge Family," and "The Brady Bunch."
After retiring from acting in the early 1990s, Leach went on to co-edit and publish "Country Connections," an award-winning bi-monthly magazine that focused on environmental and progressive social issues, from 1992 to 1999. He has also ventured into writing poetry.
Leach currently resides in Sherman Oaks, California, with his wife, Catherine Roberts Leach.
