Personal Details

Biography

Brooks Wachtel's early life was marked by his experiences as a "Navy Brat", with his family traveling extensively around the world. By the time he was a teenager, Brooks had already made up his mind to pursue a career in the motion picture industry. During his time at Hollywood High School, USC, and UCLA, he produced several student films, including a notable 45-minute Sherlock Holmes spoof made in period style, a remarkable achievement for a 16-year-old.

As a writer, producer, and director, Brooks Wachtel has worked on numerous documentaries for the History Channel, collaborating with his partner Cynthia Harrison on projects such as Guarding America: The Air Force/National Guard and The Coast Guard. His work has also been recognized with the coveted Cine Golden Eagle Award for his documentary Fly Past.

In addition to documentaries, Wachtel has written over 85 episodes of dramatic television, with a diverse range of shows to his credit. These include live-action series such as Young Hercules and animated hits like Liberty's Kids, Heavy Gear, Static, Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man, Robo-Cop, Silver Surfer, The Avengers, Mortal Kombat, The Mask, Beast Machines: Transformers, Godzilla, Gargoyles, Wing Commander Academy, and many more. For younger audiences, he has penned numerous episodes of the popular pre-school show Clifford the Big Red Dog.

Wachtel has also written several live-action features, including Goddess of Death, which he also directed. His latest project is an animated feature film, Sea Wars, an American-Korean underwater epic inspired by Lord of the Rings. He is currently a member of the Steering Committee of the Animation Writers Caucus of the Writers Guild of America and a performing magician at Hollywood's Magic Castle. As the co-creator of the super-heroine Athena: Warrior Eternal and a lifelong fan of comics, Wachtel never imagined that his extensive reading would someday be considered "research".
