Bruno Caliciuri, better known as Cali, is a French singer-songwriter born on June 28, 1968, in Perpignan to an Italian father and Catalan mother. Growing up in Vernet-les-Bains, Cali developed a passion for English rock and French chanson, as well as rugby, playing for his region and Perpignan (USAP).
Inspired by a U2 concert in 1984, Cali devoted himself more to music and less to rugby. At the age of 17, he discovered punk music in Ireland, which influenced his early musical endeavors. He formed his first group, Pénétration anale, and later joined Les Rebelles, a band composed of friends from Vernet-les-Bains.
Cali's music career progressed with the formation of Indy, with whom he self-produced two albums, and Tom Scarlett, where he collaborated with his past guitarist Hugo Baretge. In 2001, he stopped working with Tom record company Labels, which later signed him. Cali released his first well-known solo album, L'amour parfait, in 2003, which received critical acclaim and established him as a prominent French artist.
The album featured popular songs such as "Elle m'a dit", "C'est quand le bonheur", and "Pensons à l'avenir". In 2005, Cali released his second solo album, Menteur, which reinforced his position amongst France's most popular artists. The album included popular songs like "Je ne vivrai pas sans toi" and the single "Je m'en vais (après Miossec)".
In 2006, Cali published "Le bordel magnifique", a live album recorded during his Menteur tour at the Zénith de Lille. The album showcased the connection established between the singer and his audience through the concert. In 2007, he participated in a Take-Away Show video session shot by Vincent Moon.
Cali also took part in a support tour for the French cheese industry, which led to his induction as Chevalier du Camembert Doré and Grand Maître de l'Emmental. In 2008, he released his third solo album, L'espoir, which was recorded in the South of France with the help of Mathias Malzieu and Scott Colburn. The album featured love stories, as well as Cali's political engagement in "Résistance" and the single "1000 coeurs debout".
In 2010, Cali collaborated with prankster Rémi Gaillard on the music video for his song "L'amour fou". He currently resides in Languedoc-Roussillon with his two children. Cali's musical style is pop/rock, often accompanied by a rock trio, but also featuring a violin, saxophone, trumpet, and trombone, giving his music a unique folk/jazz feel. He is known for his energetic live performances, which sometimes involve stage diving, although this has led to serious injuries on at least four occasions.
