Callum Andrew Johnston, a talented filmmaker, was born in 1991 in Crawley, West Sussex, to Natasha Vincent, a homemaker, and Paul Johnston, an engineer. Growing up in the same town, he began his filmmaking journey on the local streets at the age of 17.
Before turning 20, Callum had already written and directed two films, RH11 and Crossed Paths, and received a full scholarship to attend the prestigious New York Film Academy (NYFA). However, due to family reasons, he was forced to leave the academy without graduating.
Upon returning to the UK, Callum began writing and directing Little District, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. This marked the beginning of his career in front of the camera, during which he realized his true passion lay behind the camera, leading him to transition into producing, writing, and directing full-time.
Callum's latest film, The Forbidden Note, is set for release in early 2016, after four and a half years of production. To fund the project, he worked three different jobs and received financial backing from three angel investors. The production was temporarily shut down for a year due to funding issues, requiring the team to match continuity with scenes filmed a year apart.
The Forbidden Note tackles a sensitive topic that Callum is deeply passionate about, having spent nine months studying the subject and working with imams in mosques and the British Home Office. As a vegan, Callum is committed to creating content that inspires and changes the way people see and love one another.
