Carmen, a renowned stage actor and playwright, was born in Santiago, Chile, and relocated to Canada at a tender age. Her family fled the Pinochet dictatorship, seeking refuge in a new land. This experience would later influence her work, which has been showcased extensively across North and South America.
Throughout her illustrious career, Carmen has penned and co-penned twenty plays, including The Refugee Hotel, Chile Con Carne, The Trigger, and Blue Box. Her creative output has garnered widespread acclaim, with her work being performed to great acclaim on both sides of the border.
In addition to her stage accomplishments, Carmen has also ventured into the realm of literature. Her inaugural book, a memoir titled Something Fierce: Memoirs of a Revolutionary Daughter, won the prestigious 2012 CBC Canada Reads contest and ascended to the top of the national bestseller charts. The book received glowing reviews in Canada and the United Kingdom, where it was named BBC Book of the Week.
