Two weeks after her birth, a young girl was adopted by a Catholic family, becoming their seventh child, following the untimely death of her birth mother. Raised in Shawinigan, a city in Quebec, she spent her formative years at a local convent, where she developed a profound passion for music at a remarkably early age.
As she progressed through school, she honed her skills as a concert pianist, laying the foundation for a lifelong appreciation of the arts. Upon graduating, she pursued a career in education, training as a teacher before redirecting her focus towards the world of film.
At the age of twenty, she made her acting debut in Mon enfance à Montréal (1971),a film directed by Jean Chabot. Three years later, she crossed paths with director Gilles Carle, who would go on to play a pivotal role in shaping her career.
Her unique exotic beauty, inherited from her mother's Indian heritage, combined with her captivating charm, spontaneity, and striking dark eyes, imbued with a hint of melancholy, catapulted her to stardom in French-Canadian cinema.
Beyond her impressive acting credentials, she is also a talented singer, having recorded several LPs in both French and English, in collaboration with Lewis Furey. Her singing talents were further showcased in the musical Fantastica (1980),directed by her longtime friend Gilles Carle.
Today, Laure and Furey divide their time between their homes in France and Quebec, a testament to their enduring connection to both cultures.
