Biography

Carolyn Kearney, a talented actress, embarked on her journey in the world of entertainment in the mid-1950s by studying at the renowned Pasadena Playhouse. As her skills and experience grew, she began to act in various stage productions, sharing the spotlight with esteemed veterans such as Stuart Erwin, Edward Everett Horton, Gladys Cooper, Leo G. Carroll, and Cecil Kellaway.

In addition to her extensive work in television, Kearney's film credits include the horror thriller "The Thing That Couldn't Die" (1958) and "Damn Citizen" (1957),the latter of which was shot in her hometown of New Orleans. In this film, Kearney portrayed a drug addict, a role that would later resonate with her personal struggles.

Kearney's personal life was marked by a significant challenge when, due to a physician's error, she became addicted to Xanax. After two and a half years of struggling with addiction, she made the courageous decision to kick the habit in 1987. This experience motivated her to write one of the essays for the book "Prescription Drug Addiction" and to co-found "Benzodiazepine Anonymous," a 12-step program designed to support recovering addicts.

Throughout her life, Kearney was married twice, first to screenwriter Harold Jack Bloom and then to advertising executive-writer Alan Hirshfeld. Despite the challenges she faced, Kearney's determination and resilience ultimately led her to a life of sobriety and purpose.
