Cassandra Sechler, also referred to as the "Mistress of the Weird and the Wonderful," is a conceptual artist residing in San Francisco, California.
Her background and interests in fine art photography and psychology enable her to create expressionistic works that are both personal and poetic, offering her viewers a unique perspective. Her artistic focus often revolves around the nature of gender, sexuality, identity, dreams, technological infrastructure, and her place within these realms.
Sechler earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from San Francisco State University in 2009. Since then, she has been actively involved in various creative endeavors as a curator, writer, actress, and director at Dreams For Dead Cats Productions LLC (DDCP),a San Francisco-based DIY production team co-founded with filmmaker/musician Craig Jacobson. Through DDCP, Sechler and Jacobson aim to provide exposure to non-commercial artists worldwide by expressing their visions through a diverse range of media, including photography, film and video, editing, music, sound design, sculpture, makeup, graphic design, and more.
In addition to her work at DDCP, Sechler has served as the lead curator for the Dimensions, Mindscapes, and Technophobia International Film Festivals, which have toured the United States. In 2013, she was selected as a juror and host for the 4th Annual Mascara and Popcorn Film Festival in Montreal and the 2nd Annual SLED Shorties Film Festival in San Leandro, California. Sechler has also acted as a juror for the 4th and 5th annual Ax Wound Film Festival in Brattleboro, Vermont. She continues to organize underground film nights and exhibit her artwork in the bay area and beyond.
Between 2008 and 2018, Sechler completed over 12 short films, including the acclaimed Belle Nouveau (2010),Lovey (2011),Wireboy (2013),Chained (2015),and Lovesick (2018),which have been screened internationally and received high acclaim.
