Born into a large family of eight siblings, the subject's early life was profoundly influenced by her childhood in Kingston, Ontario, where she was reared by her devoted parents, Bill and Wanita Gourdier, who played a significant role in shaping her formative years.

As her tenure as an assistant director came to a close, the subject's creative ambitions began to take center stage, propelling her to assume the roles of producer and adapter for her inaugural film, "Some Things That Stay", which premiered in the year 2003.
