Charles Gordon was a renowned film and television producer, whose illustrious career spanned decades. Born into a family that relocated to Mississippi, he later moved to Los Angeles to pursue his passion for the entertainment industry.
Gordon's early career saw him work as a talent agent, before serving as an intern for his brother, Lawrence Gordon. This experience laid the foundation for his future success, as he went on to work at Lawrence Gordon Productions, where he accumulated screenwriting and television producing credits on notable projects such as The Renegades (1983),Just Our Luck (1983),and Our Family Honor (1985).
Gordon's talents soon caught the attention of Tri-Star Pictures, which led to his work as an independent producer on the 1986 film Night of the Creeps. This success paved the way for the establishment of The Gordon Company, a production company he founded with his brother, Lawrence Gordon, at 20th Century Fox.
The duo's collaboration yielded a string of hit films, including Die Hard (1988) and Die Hard 2 (1990),earning them a joint Oscar nomination for their work on Field of Dreams (1989). In 1989, the Gordons co-founded Largo Entertainment, in partnership with JVC, producing notable films such as The Super (1991) and Unlawful Entry (1992).
When the Gordons left Largo Entertainment, Gordon went on to establish Daybreak Productions at Universal Pictures, where he served as executive producer on the 1995 film Waterworld, on behalf of his brother, Lawrence Gordon. Daybreak Productions went on to produce a range of successful films, including Trojan War (1997) for Warner Bros. and the critically acclaimed October Sky (1999) for Universal Pictures.
Gordon's subsequent projects included The Girl Next Door (2004) for Regency Enterprises, Hitman (2007) for 20th Century Fox, and the reboot Hitman: Agent 47 (2015). Tragically, Gordon passed away on October 31, 2020, at the age of 73, leaving behind a legacy of iconic films that continue to entertain audiences to this day.
