Chris Pérez is a renowned American guitarist, songwriter, and author who has made a lasting impact in the music industry as the lead guitarist for the iconic Tejano band Selena y Los Dinos.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Pérez grew up as one of two children to Gilbert Pérez and Carmen Medina. His early life and musical journey began in 1986 when he joined Shelly Lares' band, quickly gaining recognition among Tejano musicians for his exceptional guitar skills.
By the late 1980s, Pérez had established himself as a respected guitarist, catching the attention of A.B. Quintanilla, who was seeking a new guitarist for his band, Selena y Los Dinos. Pérez joined the band and went on to play alongside the legendary Selena Quintanilla, whom he married on April 2, 1992.
Following Selena's tragic death in 1995, Pérez took a hiatus from his career and returned to his childhood home with his parents. In 1998, he formed a new band, The Chris Pérez Band, alongside his friend John Garza. The band's debut album won a Grammy in 2000 for 'Best Latin Rock, Urban, or Alternative Album'.
