Chrissy Costanza, a talented musician, was born in New Jersey, United States of America, to a family of music enthusiasts. Although her parents did not have a background in music themselves, they instilled in their children a passion for the arts. Chrissy's journey began in the summer of 2011, when she joined the band Against the Current, which was formed through a connection with her best friend.
The group initially gained recognition on YouTube by posting covers of popular songs in collaboration with other well-known cover artists, such as Alex Goot and Sam Tsui. Their channel did not initially receive significant attention until the release of their first single, "Thinking." A pivotal moment came when they teamed up with YouTube sensation Alex Goot on a cover of "Good Time" by Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen, which sparked a surge in popularity in July 2012.
On May 27, 2014, Against the Current released their debut EP, Infinity, independently through online distribution. The extended play charted at No. 28 on the Heatseekers Albums, and the band embarked on a series of tours to promote the release. Following the success of Infinity, they entered the studio to record their next EP, Gravity, which was released on February 17, 2015. The six-track EP featured a guest appearance from Taka of ONE OK ROCK on the song "Dreaming Alone."
Just a few weeks after the release of Gravity, Against the Current announced that they had signed with the label Fueled By Ramen on March 4, 2015. On August 1, 2015, the band revealed that they had completed recording their first full-length album. On February 6, 2016, they announced the title and release date of their upcoming album, In Our Bones, which dropped on May 20, 2016.
In an interview with Fuse, the band members discussed the challenges of categorizing their music into a specific genre. Lead singer Chrissy Costanza noted that each song on their EP Gravity has a distinct genre, ranging from pop to rock to pop-punk.
