Christopher Bowen is a globally recognized beer historian, multi-award winning brewer, and beer adventurist. He is a modern-day Renaissance man who recreates old recipes from the past, researching methods, ingredients, and weaving beer's past into present-day tastes and stories.
In 2007, Bowen competed in the ProAm competition at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado, winning the prestigious "Gold Medal" for a historic recipe of an early English Style India Pale Ale. Since his first win in 2007, he has gone on to win medals in 2011, 2013, and another gold medal in 2014.
In 2008, Christopher Bowen created a small private brewery and pub in a converted lawn mower shed, building a dream of having a place to research and brew his creations. It was proclaimed by Forbes Magazine as "America's Coolest Homebrewery" in 2010, and in 2011 was chosen by a UK-sponsored Readers Shed competition as "International Shed of the Year".
Chris has appeared in numerous newspaper, magazine, and web articles worldwide for his work on beer history and adventure. Recently, he was invited to England to appear with TV Chef Jamie Oliver and co-star Kirstie Allsopp in a televised show about drinking and sharing a bottle of beer brewed in 1875, and 140-year-old beer. His work has been featured at the National Brewery Centre in Burton on Trent, England.
In 2015, his film "Arctic Alchemy" debuted in Omsk, Russia and is soon to be released in the United States on DVD. In 2015, he is in pre-production of his next film, "Sagas of the Iron Horn", a series of episodes to be shot in England, Wales, and Scotland about Viking breweries and ales from the 8th to 11th century.
