Biography

London-born actor Christopher Robbie embarked on a distinguished career in the performing arts, commencing with his stage debut in 1960 with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon, following his graduation from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 1960.

Throughout his extensive stage career, Robbie has had the privilege of taking on numerous iconic roles, including the titular character in King Lear, the Duke of Venice in The Merchant of Venice, and Vincentio in The Taming of the Shrew, with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Notably, Robbie has also toured annually from 1999 to 2010, playing the role of Charles Darwin in his one-man show, 'Beyond Paradise: The Wildlife of a Gentle Man', which premiered at the Salisbury Playhouse in September 1998.

Under the pseudonym 'James Alan', Robbie has also ventured into playwriting, co-authoring the play The Sirens of Eroc (2001) alongside his wife, the actress Bridget Wood, in which they shared the stage together. Their marriage, which has endured since 1964, is a testament to their enduring partnership.

Robbie's foray into television began in 1964, where he took on a diverse range of roles, including clerics, newscasters, politicians, and judges, in various episodic television productions. He is perhaps most famously remembered for his portrayal of the Cyber-Leader in the Doctor Who serial The Revenge of the Cybermen (1975).

Throughout his illustrious career, Robbie has made sporadic guest appearances in numerous television shows, including The Avengers (1961),Paul Temple (1969),UFO (1970),Dempsey and Makepeace (1985),and One Foot in the Grave (1990).

During the 1980s, Robbie worked as an announcer for various television networks, including Associated-Rediffusion, Thames, and Anglia TV. Notably, he presented the final program aired on Southern Television, And It's Goodbye from Us (1981),on December 31st, 1981.

After a storied career spanning over five decades, Robbie retired from acting in 2013. However, he has continued to pursue his passion for photography, holding successful exhibitions of his work, solidifying his reputation as an expert photographer.
