This storied legacy continued as Carrier was taught the art of playing the accordion by his father, Roy Carrier Sr., and began performing with his father's band at the tender age of 12.

Initially, Carrier focused on playing the accordion, but later transitioned to drums, joining his father's band and eventually playing drums alongside the notable Terrance Simien from 1986 until 1989. Following this period, Carrier formed his own group with his brothers Troy and Kevin.
