Conlan Carter's journey began in Center Ridge, Arkansas, where he was born, before being raised on a farm in Matthews, Missouri. His academic pursuits led him to Southeast Missouri State College, where he attended for two years on an athletic scholarship.
Carter's military service consisted of a two-year stint in the Air Force, after which he relocated to San Francisco to hone his acting skills under the guidance of 'Mara Alexander' Gilbert, head of the Bay City Actor's Lab. For three years, he focused on musical comedy, appearing in over 10 productions, before feeling prepared to take on the challenges of Hollywood.
In 1959, Carter made the move to Hollywood, and within a short two-month period, he secured a regular spot on the popular television series, The Law and Mr. Jones, which aired from 1960 to 1962.
Carter's big break arrived in 1963 when he landed the role of "Doc" on ABC-TV's hit series, Combat!, which ran from 1962 to 1967. In 1964, he made his film debut in the comedy, Quick, Before It Melts, playing a hillbilly radio operator in the Antarctic.
Following his successful run on Combat!, Carter's career continued to flourish, with appearances in a few television series and the feature film, White Lightning, released in 1973.
After acquiring his commercial pilot's license, Carter decided to retire from acting and instead pursued a career as a pilot, flying businessmen around the United States on their private aircraft.
