Biography

Cosima Lange, a talented individual, was born in 1976 in Hamburg, Germany. Her early life was marked by her involvement in the Hamburg State Opera's children's choir, which took her on concert tours across Japan, Russia, the USA, and various European countries. This exposure to diverse cultures had a profound impact on her, sparking a fascination that would later influence her career choices.

After completing her A-levels, Cosima spent time in Anglo-Saxon countries, where she developed a passion for filmmaking. She saw the medium as an ideal way to reach people worldwide, bridge cultural divides, and convey hopes and dreams through entertainment, information, and inspiration.

Upon returning to Germany, Cosima worked as a location scout manager assistant, production manager, and co-directed the program for the Hamburg Film Festival. Her experience in these roles laid the foundation for her future success.

In 1998, Cosima enrolled in the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, where she focused on "creative producing," working closely with directors and scriptwriters. During her studies, she produced several short films and graduated in 2003 with the romantic-science-fiction-thriller Vakuum (2004),which received critical acclaim and was broadcast on television.

In 2005, Cosima founded fliegende fische filmproduktion (later renamed fliegende fische creative pool),and her feature debut, the documentary Chamamé (2007),premiered to great acclaim. This intimate portrait of four musicians in Northeast Argentina showcased her skills as a director, author, and producer.

Since then, Cosima has worked as a freelance director, author, and producer, creating content for both cinema and television. Her documentary Hello I Am David! (2015) gained international recognition, with a remarkable theatrical release in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Australia, and Japan. Netflix acquired the streaming rights worldwide, and the film was broadcast on German television channels ARTE and ZDF. Ute Freund won the "Best Camera" award for Hello I Am David! (2015) at the Deutscher Kamerapreis.

Cosima Lange is also a lecturer, teaching directing, storytelling, and documentary techniques at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris, and Filmuniversität Babelsberg.
