Damien Molony is a talented actor of stage, TV, and film, best known for his television roles as Hal in BBC's "Being Human", DC Albert Flight in BBC's "Ripper Street", DS Jack Weston in "Suspects", and Jon in "GameFace". Born on February 21, 1984, in Johnstown Bridge, Kildare, Ireland, he grew up in Ireland but now resides in London, UK.
Molony attended Trinity College, Dublin, from 2003 to 2007, where he earned a degree in Business and Political Science. He began his acting career in 2007, touring Ireland with the Balally Players in "Riders to the Sea", for which he was nominated as best actor in the One Act Drama Festival.
In 2008, he attended Drama Centre London, graduating with a BA in acting in 2011. While at drama school, he performed in several theatre productions and played the male lead in the award-winning film short "When The Hurlburly's Done".
After being spotted in his drama showcase, Molony was offered the part of Giovanni in John Ford's play "Tis Pity She's a Whore", which ran from May 7 to May 28, 2011, at the Yorkshire Playhouse. He then landed his first leading television role in BBC's supernatural drama "Being Human", appearing in every episode of series 4 in 2012 and series 5 in 2013 as Hal Yorke, an over 500-year-old vampire.
Molony's stage career has flourished since then, with appearances in numerous high-profile productions, including "Travelling Light" at the National Theatre, "If You Don't Let Us Dream We, Won't Let You Sleep" at the Royal Court Theatre, and "The Body Of An American" at the Gate Theatre and Royal & Derngate.
In 2015, he returned to the National Theatre in Tom Stoppard's play "The Hard Problem", which was also broadcast live to cinemas worldwide by NT Live. He then joined the cast of BBC's Victorian drama "Ripper Street" as Irish Detective Constable Albert Flight, appearing in 7 of 8 episodes.
Molony's television slate has continued to grow, with roles in Channel 5's crime procedural "Suspects", Irish TV's "Clean Break", and Phoebe Waller-Bridge's comedy sitcom "Crashing". He has also appeared in the dark thriller "Tiger Raid", which premiered at the Tribeca International Film Festival.
In 2016, Molony made a big return to the stage in Sean Mathias's award-winning production of Harold Pinter's play "No Mans Land", touring the UK and appearing in a worldwide live cinema broadcast. He has since appeared in the biographical historical film "The Current War", playing the character Bourke Cockran, and in the comedy series "GameFace", which was renewed for a second series.
In 2018, Molony appeared in four major BBC Radio productions, including a BBC Radio 3 adaptation of John Ford's play "Tis Pity She's A Whore" and a BBC Radio 4 Easter drama "Judas". He also starred in his first web series, "Right Now", and joined the cast of Sky comedy drama "Brassic".
In 2019, Molony starred in two short films, "The Fabric Of You" and "Keep Breathing", and was announced as cast in the second series of BBC's legal drama "The Split" as new character Tyler Donaghue. He has also appeared in the second series of "Brassic" and has been confirmed to reprise his role as Tyler Donaghue in the third and final series of "The Split".
In July 2021, Molony was cast in Channel 4 drama anthology series "On The Edge", appearing in the third series in a film called "Cradled", described as a "gut-wrenching horror".
