Biography

Dan Navarro was born Daniel Anthony Navarro on September 14, 1952, in Los Angeles, California, USA, to Gabriel Navarro, a publicist and boxing matchmaker, and Josephine Navarro, a retail merchant. At the age of four, his family relocated to Calexico, California, where he lived until high school graduation.

Navarro attended UCLA, majoring in music, and was an active member of the UCLA Men's Glee Club and the UCLA Marching and Concert Bands. After graduating, he embarked on a songwriting career, penning hits like "We Belong" for Pat Benatar, alongside Eric Lowen, and songs for numerous other artists, including The Bangles, Dave Edmunds, Dionne Warwick, and many more.

As the acoustic duo Lowen & Navarro, he released 14 albums between 1990 and 2008. In 1988, he began singing in Spanish language jingles, which eventually expanded to include vocals and character voices in commercials, film, and television.

Navarro's extensive singing and voice credits include Encanto (2021),Coco (2017),Pirates of the Caribbean 5 (2016),The Book of Life (2014),The Lorax (2009),Happy Feet (2006),Family Guy, American Dad, Pantheon, and The Boys: Diabolical.

His songs have appeared in numerous films and television shows, including Mare of Easttown, Deadpool 2, Pitch Perfect 2, Blue Valentine, One Tree Hill, and The Office.

After Eric Lowen's retirement and subsequent passing due to ALS, Navarro continued to record and tour solo, releasing two solo albums, "Shed My Skin" (2018) and Horizon Line (2022),both of which reached the NACC Folk Top Ten.

Navarro is also an advocate for the arts and has served on the boards of Folk Alliance International, The Recording Academy's LA Chapter, Levitt Pavilions LA and Pasadena, and as an Advisory Trustee to the ALS Association's Golden West Chapter.

In his free time, Navarro is known for his love of acoustic guitars and has been quoted as saying that he believes sleep is for babies.
