Todd William Spivey, a renowned American professional wrestler, made a lasting impact in the wrestling world. His illustrious career spanned multiple decades, with notable stints in the United States Wrestling Federation (USWF),World Championship Wrestling (WCW),and All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW).
Spivey's journey began in 1984, debuting in Championship Wrestling from Florida. He later joined Jim Crockett's National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) territory in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he formed the tag team American Starship with Scott Hall. The duo enjoyed a moderate run, followed by a brief stint in Bob Geigel's Central States Wrestling promotion in Kansas City, Missouri.
In 1986, Spivey transitioned to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF),now known as WWE, where he teamed with Mike Rotunda as the American Express. He made his PPV debut in the battle royal during WrestleMania II and stayed with the organization until 1988.
Spivey then jumped to AJPW, where he enjoyed a successful run, winning the AJPW World Tag Team Titles with Stan Hansen. He also made appearances for WCW, forming the Skyscrapers with Sid Vicious and later Mean Mark Callous. The team's most notable match was against the Road Warriors, which ended in defeat.
Spivey returned to AJPW, where he won the AJPW World Tag Team Titles with Stan Hansen. He also made appearances for WCW, teaming with Van Hammer in a victory over Cactus Jack and Johnny B. Badd at Starrcade 92.
In 1995, Spivey made a brief return to WWE, adopting the gimmick of Waylon Mercy, inspired by Robert De Niro's portrayal of Max Cady in Cape Fear. This run was marked by a change in his hair color from blonde to dark. Although the gimmick gained popularity, Spivey's injuries forced him to retire in October of that year.
