Dane Hanson is a multifaceted creative force, boasting an impressive array of skills and accomplishments. As an award-winning filmmaker, television producer, comedy writer, and author, he has made a significant impact in the entertainment industry.
His literary debut, the novel "Worst Knights Ever", was published on August 22, 2023, and promptly rose to the top of Amazon's new release charts, garnering multiple awards and accolades in the process.
Before transitioning to writing and producing, Dane's early career in Hollywood consisted of playing the lovable goofball in over 60 national commercials.
Dane's online fame stems from his viral sensation "Lie Detector", a video that continues to rack up views by the millions, has been translated into 16 languages, and has even been borrowed verbatim by a porn film (no bragging rights claimed). This viral sensation was first performed live at his critically acclaimed sketch comedy show Sitcoms Blow.
Sitcoms Blow, which ran for 11 years, saw Dane work as head writer and director for a cast of 65 talented actors, performing over 1,500 live shows in the process. It was during this time that he honed his comedic writing and directing chops, and "Lie Detector" made its debut on the show.
Another notable Sitcoms Blow sketch, "The Female Orgasm Law", written, directed, and starring Dane, took home the Audience Award for Best Comedy Short at the 2012 Friars Club Comedy Festival.
After being diagnosed with Thyroid cancer in 2007, Dane's acting career was put on hold as he underwent treatment and recovery. However, he emerged from his ordeal with a newfound passion for writing and producing TV, eventually producing over 500 episodes for Fox and giving Taylor Tomlinson her TV debut on "Laughs".
Dane has also collaborated frequently with comedian Steve Hofstetter.
In 2021, Dane's exceptional writing skills earned him a finalist spot at UCLA for best spec script for his episode of "What We Do in the Shadows".
