Danny Lockin, a phenomenal dancer, was born in the enchanting Hawaiian islands in 1943 and grew up in the Midwestern city of Omaha, Nebraska. His exceptional dancing skills led him to begin his professional career at the tender age of eight. His impressive film debut came in 1962 when he played the role of Gerry in the iconic movie Gypsy. He then took his talents to the Broadway stage, starring in the 1964 revival of the legendary musical West Side Story, as well as other notable productions such as The Sound of Music, The Music Man, and Take Me Along.
Lockin's outstanding performance as Barnaby in the touring stage production of David Merrick's Broadway sensation Hello, Dolly! caught the attention of the renowned Gene Kelly, who subsequently cast him in the film adaptation of the musical in December 1967. Following the completion of filming on Hello, Dolly! in 1969, Lockin reprised his role as Barnaby on the Broadway stage, this time alongside the iconic Ethel Merman in the lead. Additionally, he recorded a record album and, for several years in the 1970s, shared his dancing expertise with students at his mother's studio in Orange County, California.
Tragically, the life of this incredibly talented individual was cut short when he was brutally murdered in 1977, leaving behind a legacy of unforgettable performances and a lasting impact on the world of dance and entertainment.
