David França Mendes was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and has been residing in Cologne, Germany, since 2020. Since his relocation, he has been involved in various Brazilian and European productions.
As a filmmaker, he has written the feature films "In Corman's Territory?" (documentary) and "O Casalinho do Diabo" (children's animated film),both for Portuguese production companies. He has also written the feature films "Dirty Hearts" (literary adaptation, drama, suspense) and "The middle of the world" (drama based on real events),both directed by Vicente Amorim.
David has written and directed the feature films "Um Romance de Geração" (comedy) and "2000 Nordestes" (documentary),which he co-directed with Vicente Amorim and produced by LC Barreto. He has also written the feature films "A Garota da Moto" (action) and "Uma Aventura Perfekta" (children),a spin-off of the series "Escola de Gênios" to be released in 2024, both produced by Mixer.
As a television creator, França Mendes has a "created by" credit in three original series. He was the co-creator and head-writer of "A Garota da Moto" (adventure) for Fox and SBT, creator and head writer of "Quase anônimos" (comedy) for Multishow, and co-creator, with Rodrigo Ferrari, and head-writer of "Nós" (drama),for Canal Brasil/Globoplay.
David was also the supervising writer for the six seasons of the family series "Escola de Gênios" for Gloob/Globoplay, in addition to having worked as head writer at Mixer for five years, during which he created, supervised, and developed several projects. He was one of the writers in the second season of "Copa Hotel" (drama),created by Giuliano Cedrini and Tatiana Roza for GNT, at Pródigo.
In 2022, David was part of the development team for the series "Desassossego" (fiction, drama),an international co-production between Take it Easy (Portugal) and Iris (Luxembourg) with the participation of RTP (Portugal).
Awards and accolades include the ABL Special Cinema Award and the Grande Cinema Brasil Award for Best Adapted Screenplay with the feature film "Dirty Hearts". His series "A Garota da Moto" was a finalist for all Brazilian television awards in its first season, including the important APCA award.
In addition to his work in film and television, França Mendes is the author of the collection of short stories "O Herói Insone" and has debuted as a theater author with the play "Amor é Química" in 2019.
