David Quentin Gale, a tall, thin, and distinguished character actor, was born on October 2, 1936, in Wimbledon, England. His acting career began on the New York stage in the late 1950s, before transitioning to film and television in the early 1970s.
With his gaunt face, lean build, and intense and imposing screen presence, Gale was often cast as extremely wicked and hateful villains. One of his most iconic roles was as Dr. Carl Hill, a ruthless and arrogant mad scientist, in Stuart Gordon's horror splatter gem Re-Animator (1985). He reprised this role in the sequel Bride of Re-Animator (1990.
Gale's other notable roles include Dr. Anthony Blakely, a demented pop psychologist TV show host, in The Brain (1988),and Carter Brown, a batty CEO, in Syngenor (1990). He also played Fulton Balcus, an evil corporate head, in Guyver (1991).
In addition to his film and television work, Gale had a lengthy and impressive stage career. He acted in Broadway productions of classic plays such as "Of Mice and Men" and "Sweet Bird of Youth," as well as Off-Broadway productions of plays like "Elizabeth the Queen," "Joe Egg," "The Trial," "Orpheus Descending," and "Anthony and Cleopatra."
Gale was married and had a son. He died on August 18, 1991, in Los Angeles, California, due to complications from open-heart surgery.
