Dave Hastings was born in Walsall, West Midlands, UK in October 1982. He was immediately captivated by films and spent most of his youth digesting all types of them from varying genres. The horror genre stood out to him the most, and he refers to it as his "continual guilty pleasure".
Dave grew up on British Gothic horror films from Hammer Studios and Amicus, and his favourite all-time actor is the late Peter Cushing. He was also heavily influenced by John Carpenter's film, Halloween, which he saw at the age of six and encouraged him to pursue filmmaking.
In addition to horror, Dave has explored and viewed films from all corners of the world, from differing genres and decades. He cites films such as Jaws, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Alien, The Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty, and The Breakfast Club as part of his favourites' list.
Dave has written for numerous film academic publications and has proposed new ways of seeing and viewing movie texts from a broad educational spectrum. He has also lectured in film and media studies at a UK College in the West Midlands.
Dave has written, produced, and directed a range of movies over various genres. His short film, Halloween Night Terror, won a Best Film Award at the Phoenix ComicCon Film Festival in the US, and his feature film, House of Screaming Death, won Best Feature Film at the Midlands Movies Awards in 2018.
He has also been involved in various other film projects, including the anthology film, Checking In, which won Best British Film at the 2014 London Film Awards. His upcoming projects include the feature film, Sustain, which will be released in late 2019, as well as short films, Willem and You Are My Sunshine.
Dave's parents, Sue and Ken, are his main inspiration for wanting to be a filmmaker. He is proud to have achieved his dream and continues to celebrate his love for film and his passion for storytelling.
