David Vaughan Icke is a renowned English writer, public speaker, and former media personality. He is widely recognized for his unconventional views on the world, which he has dubbed "New Age conspiracism". Icke has written 16 books that outline his perspective, which has garnered a substantial following across the political spectrum.
Prior to his transformation into a prominent conspiracy theorist, Icke was a well-known BBC television sports presenter and spokesman for the Green Party. However, his life took a dramatic turn in 1990 when he had an encounter with a psychic who claimed that he was a healer placed on Earth for a specific purpose.
In 1991, Icke appeared on the BBC's Terry Wogan show, where he announced that he was the son of God and predicted a series of catastrophic events, including tidal waves and earthquakes. This unexpected revelation led to a significant shift in his public image, transforming him from a respected household name to an object of ridicule.
Undeterred, Icke continued to develop his ideas, publishing four books between 1994 and 2001. These works, including "The Robots' Rebellion", "And the Truth Shall Set You Free", "The Biggest Secret", and "Children of the Matrix", outline a comprehensive moral and political worldview that combines New-Age spiritualism with a critique of modern totalitarian trends.
At the heart of Icke's theories lies the notion that a secret group of reptilian humanoids, known as the Babylonian Brotherhood, controls humanity. He claims that many prominent figures, including George W. Bush, Queen Elizabeth II, Kris Kristofferson, and Boxcar Willie, are actually reptilians.
Icke's views have been met with criticism and controversy, particularly his assertion that the reptilians were the original authors of "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion", a 1903 Russian forgery that purports to be a plan for Jewish world domination. Icke has denied any antisemitic intent behind his claims, but his statements have attracted the attention of the far-right and the suspicion of Jewish groups.
In 1999, Icke faced difficulties entering Canada, where his books were removed from the shelves of Indigo Books after protests from the Canadian Jewish Congress. This incident became the focus of a 2001 documentary by British journalist Jon Ronson, titled "David Icke, the Lizards and the Jews".
