David Keith Miller was born and celebrated his bar mitzvah in Cleveland, Ohio, and when his parents relocated to Sunnyvale, California, at the age of 15, he decided to follow them. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in Philosophy from Stanford University, where he not only excelled academically but also showcased his acting skills by taking on lead roles in stage productions and regional theater performances in the Bay Area.
Upon graduating from Stanford, instead of pursuing a conventional career path by attending law school, Miller opted to pursue his passion for acting by enrolling in a Master of Fine Arts program in Acting at Yale University. During his time at Yale, he had the opportunity to hone his craft alongside notable alums, including Tony Shalhoub, Mark Linn-Baker, and Fred Melamed, although he did manage to lose a substantial amount of money in poker games with his peers.
After completing his graduate studies, Miller transitioned to a career in the performing arts, adopting the stage name David Asher and embarking on a successful career in musical theater. He performed in notable productions such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Merlin, and Canterbury Tales on and off Broadway, showcasing his vocal talents and versatility as an actor.
However, a vocal injury ultimately forced Miller to abandon his singing career and redirect his focus towards writing. He continued to act, albeit in a more limited capacity, touring Japan and performing in regional theater productions, including Tadashi Suzuki's Shakespeare adaptation The Tale of Lear. Miller also made appearances in films, including Roger Corman's infamous unreleased version of The Fantastic Four, in which he played the role of Trigorin.
Today, Miller focuses primarily on writing and producing, although he has not ruled out the possibility of casting himself in one of his own projects in the future, a decision that may ultimately have a negative impact on the film.
