David Meier Smith was born in 1968 on a military base at Fort Riley, Kansas, but his brief stint there was short-lived as he was soon brought back to his family's home in Louisville, Kentucky.
As a self-proclaimed aficionado, David has a profound passion for cinema-fantastic productions on various formats, including VHS, Laserdisc, DVD, and Blu-ray, with a specific focus on Sci-Fi, Horror, Fantasy, and Erotic genres. This fervor is undoubtedly inherited from his father, with whom he shared a lifelong love for watching movies together. David's cinematic education began with theatrical viewings of iconic films like Conan the Barbarian, Alien, Excalibur, The Road Warrior, and the original Star Wars, which he watched with his father. At home, they indulged in Errol Flynn movies, Sherlock Holmes, Flash Gordon, and Star Trek, while also being part of the Science Fiction book club and subscribers to Heavy Metal Magazine. These formative experiences have significantly shaped David's personality and continue to influence him to this day. He now shares his love for films with his own son, Cameron, by watching many of the same movies together.
Beyond mere movie enthusiast, David has always had an insatiable desire to create his own films. He was fortunate enough to collaborate with a friend on his first film, Blood Oath, a retro-styled slasher film with supernatural elements released on the Troma label.
In addition to his filmmaking endeavors, David has also shared his passion for movies with the students of St. Raphael School in Louisville by teaching an after-school enrichment program in film studies. Through this program, students learned about the art of filmmaking, the history of films, and then had the opportunity to participate in creating their own short films. David also worked with students to produce a film about school safety for the Catholic Mutual Group's Safety in Schools Video competition, where they were runner-up in the competition.
